About the Imagine Project
The Imagine project, an on-line writing and radio broadcast project that ran in the fall of 2001, was created by CBC Radio and Radio-Canada's La Chaine Culturelle, with funding support provided by the Canada Council for the Arts. Writers In Electronic Residence was pleased to be offered the opportunity to work with the CBC on this creative endeavour.
For Imagine, students and writers were brought together on-line to collaborate on the creation of stories around the pre-determined project theme of "A Snake in The Garden". Dialogues and stories in French and English were simultaneously developed, and opportunities for live, direct chats allowed students to participate in story-building dialogues with the other language participants.
During the residency, the two professional authors shared their insights through on-line diaries and helped students develop their own works based on the same guidelines.
The finished works from Imagine were broadcast on CBC Radio One and Radio-Canada. A multimedia overview of the Imagine project is being featured at http://www.artscanada.cbc.ca/ (it is best viewed with a higher-speed connection and requires the Macromedia Flash 5 plug-in for your browser.)
Imagine has been nominated for a Peabody Award.
