Ken Roberts

kenKEN ROBERTS has had a varied background. He was a two time all-American distance runner who attended U.C.L.A. He has worked with the Muppets in New York. He has taught puppetry, drama, librarianship, and children's literature at different Canadian universities. He has also worked as a "Storyteller in Residence" for the Vancouver School Board and was the on-stage "host" and scenario writer for the 1986 World Theatresports Championships, which featured improvisational acting teams from Canada, the United States, Great Britain and New Zealand.

Ken’s comic novel, Hiccup Champion of the World, published in 1988 by Groundwood, was a Canadian bestseller. Including Hiccup, Ken has written five comic novels for young adults: Nothing Wright (1991), Stephanie Kay (1988), Pop Bottles (1985), and Crazy Ideas (1984). His fictional world is peppered with strange and unusual characters. His novels reflect a love of people. Ken also wrote Jacques Cartier for the Canadian Pathfinder Series, published by Grolier in 1988.

Ken is currently the Chief Librarian of the Whitby public library system in Ontario. He has a daughter at university, a son in high school, and a young son. His wife is also a public library administrator.
