LINDA ROGERS was born in 1944 at Port Alice on Vancouver Island. She graduated from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in theatre, fine arts and English literature, with a Masters degree in Canlit.
Linda has taught painting and drama to children; creative writing at University of Victoria, English at UBC, and children's literature at Malaspina College and Camuson College. She has also reviewed books for the Vancouver Sun, The Toronto Star, Books in Canada, Canadian Literature, and Bookshelf on Shaw Cable. She has served on the boards of the Pacific Opera Victoria and the Read Society and is a past President of The League of Canadian Poets and The Federation of B.C. Writers.
Her collections of poems include: Queens of the Next Hot Star (1982), Witness (1985), Singing Rib (1988), Letters from the Doll Hospital (1992), Hard Candy (1994) Love in the Rainforest (1995), Heaven Cake (1997), The Saning (1999), and The Bursting Test (2002). Other books include a novella, The Half Life of Radium (1994), The Broad Canvas: portraits of women by women (1999), and a collaborative work, Breaking the Surface (2000), which included her writing alongside other women writers of note. Say My Name: The Memoirs of Charlie Louie (2000), is the fictitious narration of a First Nations boy. Rehearsing the Miracle (2001) is a fine art collection of poems and prints from Poppy Press. Most recently two of her essay collections were published by Guernica: Al Purdy, essays on his work, and bill bissett, essays on his work. In the spring of 2003, Random House will be publishing an essay of hers in Dropped Threads and her latest novel, Friday Water, will be published by Cormorant Books.
She has also published books for children, including the popular Worm Sandwich (1989), Brown Bag Blues (1992), The Magic Flute (1992), Frankie the Zapper and the Disappearing Teacher (1994) and Molly Brown is not a Clown (1996).
Linda makes her home in Victoria, B.C. She lives with illustrator/musician Rick Van Krugel. Rick and Linda are a husband-and-wife team who perform shows, songs and poems for children in schools throughout British Columbia.She is lucky enough to have almost three grandchildren as her best friends.
