Ian Niven is a Vice President of the Private Wealth Group of BMO Harris Private Banking. He is responsible for establishing relationships with successful Canadian families and assisting them and their advisors in designing and executing plans to meet their objectives.  Ian is backed by a very talented team with diverse expertise and navigates and accesses the strength and resources of BMO Financial Group to design and execute client solutions.

Ian commenced his career in public accounting with Clarkson Gordon in Toronto and Arthur Young in Milan, Italy. On his return to Canada, Ian joined Ernst & Young’s tax group specializing in tax-driven financial planning for families and became a partner of the firm in 1990. He moved to the Bank of Montreal in 1997 where he became the President & CEO of BMO Harris Investment Management Inc and led the fastest growing discretionary investment management firm in Canada until July 2008.

Ian received his Chartered Accountant Designation in 1982. He is a member of the Ontario and Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Canadian Tax Foundation and the Institute Of Corporate Directors. He has served on many charitable boards including the Writers’ Trust of Canada and is currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees of Writers in Electronic Residence.
